If you’re thinking that Longboard Café is a casual, surf-themed restaurant, you are right! But it’s also more. Longboard takes casual dining to a new level. The idea is fine dining meets California casual. That means that one side of the table could be enjoying burgers and fish tacos while the other is eating an upscale meal of Saffron Risotto. And during the busy summer days, Longboard is bursting with patrons who thinks this formula is perfect!

The Inspiration—Sunny California

Owner, Rick Vach, started out his casual yet refined concept at a smaller restaurant in Sunset Island. The restaurant was such a success that he decided to head to the big leagues in Ocean City. Longboard Café was born from a similar concept.

Rick had a long surfing background. He also missed the amazing food he had encountered during his time in California and Mexico. This makes Longboard different than anything else you’ll find in Ocean City. From the time you step in, you get a sense of the laid back atmosphere. From the vintage longboards lining the walls to the bamboo décor. It feels like California. And the food is not your usual Ocean City seafood fare.

Comfortable When You Step In—Impressed When You Step Out

The food! The dining at Longboard Café is comparable to any other fine dining in town! When you arrive, you have an instant sense of comfortability. But after you sample the cuisine, you will leave impressed by the quality, fine dining.

The specialties are West Coast oriented, giving patrons a taste of something different. Customers who have been to California are reminded of the cuisine. But it’s not typical resort fare.

An eclectic menu is the name of the game. Each time a new item is added, it does well. So they can’t cut anything from their growing menu. The chefs are not classically trained but they are foodies. They are always playing around with recipes, trying something new.

And what a menu! Salads replete with creative toppings—like grilled chicken, granny smith apples, roasted corn and a honey lime vinaigrette. The best tacos in town. Gourmet hamburgers, made with short rib and chuck brisket. Incredible seafood prepared fresh. And of course, a customer favorite, the wrinkled green beans.

Longboard Looking Ahead

During the summer season, Longboard is always bursting at the seams. So think ahead when planning a visit.

Daily specials will always be changing. Be sure to check out their lunch sandwiches, the Fish of the Day, the Risotto of the Day and the Steak/Chop of the Day. They’re always trying out exotic game or fresh seafood.

There’s also live entertainment three to four times a week, starting around 8:30 p.m.

Mancini’s Brick Oven Pizzeria

There’s nothing better than fire-roasted food. And Mancini’s Brick Oven Pizzeria in Fenwick Island, Delaware, has perfected the art of perfectly baked pizza.

Brick oven pizza is an experience not to be missed at Mancini's just outside Ocean City.

Brick oven pizza is an experience not to be missed at Mancini’s just outside Ocean City.

Cooking a pizza in a brick oven creates the most delicious taste. Bubbly, hot cheese, crisp, perfectly browned crust and toppings cooked to perfection. It takes an expert to cook pizza’s well in a brick oven. And when you come to Mancini’s you won’t be disappointed. The short drive from Ocean City will give you time to imagine the sensations your taste buds will encounter!

The Food

The food at Mancini’s is based off classic Trattorie of Italy. They draw inspiration from their coastal location by incorporating scrumptious seafood into the meals. Appetizers will start your meals with a bang with offerings like Roasted Garlic Bulb or three types of Bruschetta in the Bruschetta Sampler. There are also specialty entrées like baby clams cooked in a marinara or white wine sauce or breaded veal served with imported parmesan and spaghetti.

Then of course there’s the main attration—wood fired pizza. They have the classics like Margherita and other classic toppings. But they’ve gone off the beaten path with such specialties as Shrimp Pesto Pizza or Ricotta and Spinach Pizza.

The Drinks

Mancini’s offers a full bar as well as the usual suspects in wine and beer. But they also some very inventive Martinis that are worth a taste. The Mancini Manhattan, the South Beach and a sinfully sweet Tiramisu Martini.

The Atmosphere

From the cozy bar to the elegant surroundings, this is the perfect place to take a date or reignite some romance with your special someone. The service matches the food—world class!

Take Your Family or Go by Yourself to the International Kite Expo This April!

One of my favorite songs from the iconic movie “Mary Poppins” is “Let’s Go Fly a Kite!” The song talks about how kites give us “our own set of wings!” When you hold on to the string of a kite, you don’t feel grounded to the earth, you feel as though you were soaring with the colorful creation flying above your head.

If this appeals to you, then Ocean City, Maryland is the place to be this spring! This April 29–May 1, the Maryland International Kite Expo will fill the skies with kites of every shape, size and color. From flying sea creatures to floating guitars to ferocious dragons, don’t be surprised if you see it.
